Overview

The Venice Area Audubon Rookery is a small island in a pond about 50 feet from shore, where birds roost and nest safe from predators while alligators patrol the water. Bird photographers come from around the world for the close views.

A shaded pavilion overlooks the island, and a short unpaved path loops the pond. Sarasota County maintains the rookery with the Venice Area Audubon Society.
